When your friend and fellow photographer says she wants to check out a location with her daughter and BFF, you go! Even though I live about 3 minutes from this spot, I have never been to it before this night. We were hoping for some amazing golden light, but the clouds got in the way. Still, we managed to get some pretty amazing pictures of these two BFF’s and it made me a little sad at times missing my BFF’s:(

I am so anxious for my family sessions coming up and to get outside! So happy that winter is past us now. Nothing but blue skies and golden light.

Birthdays.. I’m kind of over them. After 29, they seem more like a countdown than a celebration. My husband however, loves to celebrate my birthday so he said “grab your camera, we’re heading out”. My son was on board with one strict rule; do not take his photo.. 14 year olds I tell ya.. Anyway, we headed first to Larabee State Park which is gorgeous! After climbing around there and people watching, we headed south to Deception Pass State Park. I have never been to either park yet after living here now two and a half years. I am still in awe that all this natural beauty is only an hour drive from home. How lucky are we to live in this amazing place!

So, below is how I spent my birthday. Quietly watching the beauty of the PNW unfold in front of me. Watching people enjoy it as well and photographing them. I kept pinching myself occasionally that this is my backyard.

I am older and wiser today.

I am lucky.

February is one of my favorite months! Now that I’m a die-hard Seahawks fan and football in general, I get pretty amped up with the ” big game “. So, with that being said, I decided to make February awesome for everyone! Right now, til February 22nd, save $49.00 off of any session booked. Newborn sessions booked, who happen to be born on my birthday February 22nd, will also receive an additional $50.00 off!

All you have to do is contact me and get started. A $100 non-refundable retainer is due at the time of booking. These sessions can take place anytime of the year until December 15, 2015.

I have some great things planned for February! It’s my birthday month, and the Seahawks are going to the Superbowl! I admit, until I moved to Seattle from Canada I don’t think I watched 10 minutes of football.

Once I moved here, the Seahawks went on a huge streak and now look at them! I like to think I had a part in their awesome streak, but no.. They just are awesome! Anyway, while we wait to see the game on February 1st, and I wait to celebrate my birthday on the 22nd,

I am coming up with some great deals and ideas for the month of February. Be sure to like my Facebook page and check back here to see what is coming up. Until then, GO SEAHAWKS!!

No post is good without some kind of photo, so here is my favorite Muppet, Kermit doing his best to cheer on the Seahawks!

Yes, I am a Kermit the Frog fan:)I might have a few Kermit things around the house…

Back on that one nice Saturday back in October, remember that day? This awesome family met with me for fall photos. It was so nice and warm out in between days and days of rain. I absolutely love their outfits! Combining 2 key colors and mixing and matching is key to creating beautiful family portraits that don’t look too formal or aged. I can’t wait to hopefully photograph the baby on the way in December as well!

Thank you for choosing me as your family photographer this year!

Deciding to have professional pictures of your family taken is a great gift for everyone involved. Having this stage of your family captured will provide great memories for years and generations to come.

Some people prefer the traditional studio setting, formally posed portraits like the ones we probably all appear in from our childhood, I know I have a few kicking around that I love, but wouldn’t hang on the wall if you paid me a million dollars!

Today’s trends are a more relaxed, candid style of session showcasing your family interacting with each other. Tender moments, laughing, snuggling, that look of love. These are the moments that we remember and want to hold onto.

So, now that you know you want a session, which session do you book and how do you decide who to book with? First off, decide on the style of photography that appeals to you. Do you prefer posed sessions or sessions that are more relaxed, light posing

and a mix of closeups and candid moments. I tend to shoot family sessions in a mixed style. Some light posing, some away shots where I am further back to show the environment and surroundings with some close up candid moments. I like to capture

moody shots, laughing shots and tender moments. Using color and b&w to create a beautiful gallery of your family that you will want to hang on the walls of your home:)

Carmen Miller Photography offers two kinds of family photography sessions. Family Mini Sessions or Full Family Sessions. The difference between the two detailed below should help you decide which is best for you and your family.

$475.00 – Full Family Sessions include the following:

No time limit, usually between 1 – 2 hours but no restrictions

Location mutually agreed upon in the Seattle area, sometimes multiple locations if they are in close proximity

A larger gallery and collection of images that are all yours! You get to have them all. Usually between 24 – 40 images.

A beautiful custom USB drive, a guide to help you plan how to display your family’s photos and some helpful tips for printing

A few of the different locations to be considered include Discovery Park, Seattle Arboretum, Everett beaches, Bothell Landing, Mary Moore Park and numerous other areas. I am always interesting in going to new places as well!

$Price varies from $150 – $250 depending on type of mini – Family Mini Sessions include the following:

Up to 30  mins of session time

One location, chosen by Carmen

5 or 10 digital files that you choose from the online gallery delivered via download

The online gallery will usually have up to 15 images to choose from

Because mini sessions are usually booked by multiple families on certain days, there is a strict time limit

A full family session is best if you want to have a fun, relaxed session and in the end, have lots of different images to display or use as you wish. This is ideal for creating albums, large wall galleries and scrapbooking.

Family Mini sessions are best if you like to update your family images regularly. If you are mostly interested in a few images, creating holiday cards and updating perhaps a large canvas print you have on display.

Please note that Family Mini sessions are only offered a few times a year and sell out quickly.

Meet Ana. This gorgeous girl just happens to be my niece. Last year at Thanksgiving she asked if I would do photos for her this fall, I had to say yes. I don’t normally photograph senior girls, but I was having a great time

with Ana talking photography (she is taking classes this year at Edmonds CC) and dressing up to go to a few Bothell locations on the most perfect evening. This will be my one senior session, unless my other niece wants the same in a couple of years:)

First we did some indoor studio shots.
